Armenia and India Agree to Jointly Develop Defense Technologies

YEREVAN — Armenia and India have agreed to expand cooperation in defense technologies, research, innovation and joint production, following talks in Yerevan on August 17.

Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Davit Tadevosyan received a delegation headed by Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

According to Armenia’s Ministry of High-Tech Industry, the meeting focused on opportunities to expand Armenian-Indian cooperation in the defense industry and high-technology sectors, with particular emphasis on scientific research, development and innovation.

The sides also stressed the importance of strengthening institutional ties and developing partnerships with Armenian companies.

During the meeting, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia and the Ministry of Defence of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research, development, innovation and joint production in the defense industry.

Under the memorandum, the two sides identified areas for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, including joint research, design and innovation projects, the development of defense technology startups and incubators, as well as programs aimed at exchanging expertise and strengthening the professional capabilities of specialists in the sector.

The memorandum was signed by Aram Jivanyan, acting chairman of Armenia’s Military-Industrial Committee, and Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The sides also agreed on further steps aimed at ensuring the practical implementation of the agreements reached.

Singh also met with First Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan.

According to Armenia’s Ministry of Defense, the two officials discussed issues related to Armenian-Indian defense cooperation. As part of previously reached agreements, the sides also exchanged a document establishing a new framework for cooperation between the general staffs of the armed forces of the two countries.
