YEREVAN — A meeting of Armenia’s Security Council, chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, was held to discuss the security situation in the region.
During the session, participants also addressed issues related to ensuring the normal operation of transport and communication routes. The prime minister issued the necessary instructions regarding these matters.
The meeting was also attended by President Vahagn Khachaturyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, and other officials.
During a briefing at the government building, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that the Armenian government had already taken all necessary steps in advance to respond to the situation surrounding the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that state institutions have been working on these matters for a considerable period of time.
Referring to the growing regional tensions, the prime minister said:
“It is very painful for us to see what is happening around the Islamic Republic of Iran and in the region. But we must acknowledge that, unfortunately, this situation is not new. Those who follow international developments should at least have had concerns that such a situation could arise,” Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan also noted that about one to one-and-a-half years ago, by his decision within the framework of the Security Council system, a special working group was established to address these issues. The group has been dealing with the matter on a regular basis—sometimes daily and sometimes monthly.
