“We discussed the issue of Armenian prisoners with the Prime Minister of Armenia,” U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said at Zvartnots International Airport ahead of his trip to Baku on February 11.
Responding to a journalist’s question about whether he plans to address the issue of the release of Armenian prisoners in Baku, Vance said: “That issue will certainly be raised. We have very good relations both with the Prime Minister of Armenia and with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Yesterday, I heard the Prime Minister say that he is optimistic about a peace agreement, considering where we are now compared to a few months ago. So we will certainly raise a number of topics, but I believe we will continue to work very successfully with both Azerbaijanis and Armenians.”
The Vice President made the remarks shortly before departing Yerevan for Baku, underscoring the U.S. intention to engage both sides as diplomatic efforts toward peace continue.
