YEREVAN — Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to a statement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry alleging that the newly adopted Armenia–EU Strategic Partnership Agenda contradicts the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In a comment to Armenpress regarding Baku’s statement, Armenian MFA spokesperson Ani Badalyan said:
“We emphasize that the Armenia–EU Strategic Partnership Agenda reflects the substance of the bilateral and deepening partnership between Armenia and the European Union, based on shared values and mutual interests. It reflects not only the European aspirations of Armenia’s citizens but also the EU’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy, and socio-economic resilience. It is evident that this, in itself, contributes to efforts aimed at further consolidating peace in the region.”
Badalyan added that the Strategic Partnership Agenda—whose bilateral negotiations were, in fact, principally concluded back in June—also outlines a shared vision for the future, including the mutual commitment to strengthening stability, prosperity, and peace in the region.
She further noted:
“It is noteworthy that in the joint statement adopted following the Armenia–EU Partnership Council meeting held on the same day, the EU—reiterating its previously expressed support—welcomed the historic milestone achieved between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the Peace Summit held in Washington this August, including the initialing of the ‘Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.’ The EU reaffirmed its strong support for the further consolidation and institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
