CIORESCU, MOLDOVA — Participating in a European competition for the first time, Armenian men’s basketball team has won the championship for small countries beating Andorra in the final game.

Armenia took the initiative from the get go and immediately dominated the first quarter 25:12. At the end of the first half Armenia was ahead by 10 point 43:33

Retaining the advantage in the second half and never conceding the lead Armenia won by a final score of 79:71.

Once again guard Andre Spight Mkrtchyan was the high scorer with 27 points. He was also voted tournament MVP averaging 21.2 points per game.

Power forward Bryant Dunston Jr dominated the game with 14 rebounds and 15 points.

Armenia was the only team to feature two players in the All-Star Five. Spight Mkrtchyan and Dunston were joined by Paul Dick (Ireland), Colom Barrufet (Andorra) and Tevin Alexander Falzon (Malta).

With this victory Armenia has earned the right to participate in the qualifying stage of the European Championship next season.
