AUA Digital Library Presents Writers Who Perished in the Genocide

YEREVAN — American University of Armenia (AUA) Digital Library of Armenian Literature presented on April 20th its new project: Writers Who Perished in the Genocide – digitization of over 60 volumes of literature in Western Armenian.

The project was made possible thanks to generous support from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and San Francisco-Bay Area Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee. Digilib will also present the launch of its new and updated website www.digilib.am with newly-added tools.

AUA Armenian Digital Library was established in 1999 as a platform for a collection, digitization preservation, and presentation to worldwide audiences of some of the enormous wealth contained in the rich holdings of Armenian national repositories all over the world. The project emphasizes the importance of 21st-century digital tools in preserving and presenting Armenian written heritage and culture to the global audiences.

Particularly significant on the eve of April 24, is opening of the new collection of Works by Authors Who Perished in the Armenian Genocide. This collection, supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation and San Francisco-Bay Area Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee, is the first of its kind. In digital format, they can be easily searched, analyzed and compared, opening the way to a new wave of research and many hours of good reading on computer screens and handheld devices. Over 60 volumes of 40 authors have been digitized.
