YEREVAN — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8, 2026.

During the call, the two leaders exchanged views on the first anniversary of the Peace Summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump. During that summit, peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan was established and the text of a peace agreement between the two countries was initialed.

The two leaders particularly emphasized the important role played by President Trump and the United States government in advancing the peace process.

Pashinyan and Aliyev also noted the progress achieved over the past year in normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

During the conversation, the development of trade and economic ties between the two countries was highlighted as a tangible benefit of peace. In this context, the leaders noted the export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, as well as the transportation of transit cargo through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia and from Armenia to other destinations.

The two sides also exchanged views on the implementation of the TRIPP route in accordance with the agreements reached in Washington.

They emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to advance the peace process and ensure lasting peace, stability, connectivity, and economic cooperation in the region.
