YEREVAN — The number of tourists visiting Armenia in April increased by 39 percent compared to the same period last year.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the figures during the Armenian government’s May 7 session.
“During January–April, we also recorded a 34 percent increase compared to the same period last year,” Pashinyan added.
Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan further explained that Armenia is also seeing greater diversity among incoming tourists.
“If in 2023 tourists from the Russian Federation accounted for 52 percent of total visitors during the January–April period, today that figure stands at 36 percent. In 2024 it was 42 percent, and now it is 36 percent. In other words, the share of one country has fallen from more than 50 percent to nearly one-third,” Papoyan stated.
Pashinyan stressed that despite the declining proportional share, the actual number of tourists arriving from Russia has still increased.
According to Papoyan, the number of Russian tourists rose from 183,700 last year to 245,178 this year.
The minister added that the number of visitors from India, Italy, France, the United States, China, Germany, Ukraine, Iran, and Georgia has also increased significantly.
“The geographic diversity is quite broad,” Papoyan noted.
He further explained that while tourists from Italy once represented only 0.4 percent of total visitors to Armenia, they now account for more than 1 percent.
