YEREVAN — Broadcasting service providers delivering audiovisual media will be required to clearly label content generated by artificial intelligence or other digital technological solutions when airing it.

This was announced during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly by Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, while presenting a draft amendment to the Law on Audiovisual Media.

According to the minister, the main purpose of the government’s proposed legislative amendment is to ensure the identification of synthetic or AI-generated television content, making it clearly visible to audiences.

“Through this legislative draft, the government proposes several additions to the Law on Audiovisual Media. The core essence is that, once the law is adopted, we will expect broadcasting service providers to mandatorily label television or synthetic content generated by artificial intelligence or other digital technological solutions whenever it is aired,” Hayrapetyan said.

He clarified that this refers to visible on-screen labeling, which will clearly indicate that the content was created using AI tools.

The minister added that once the law is adopted, oversight of compliance will be carried out by the Television and Radio Commission of Armenia. Violations will result in a fine of 300,000 drams.
