Last month at their annual meeting the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (ANRC) members elected Nora Tossounian, MD; Sona Mardinian, RPh; Greg Toufayan; and Bill Nouri to the ANRC Board of Trustees. They bring good experience from their various disciplines to the Board. At the annual meeting plans were disclosed on the new Building that will replace the current 95 year old structure. A very good team has been formed to carry out these objectives.

ANRC’s tradition of dedication and service is attributable to several generations of women who founded and sustain the Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (A.W.W.A.) a non-profit organization incorporated in 1934. The success of the Armenian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a direct result of the efforts of the A.W.W.A. Nine first-generation Armenian women who were passionately interested in the physical and social well-being of Armenian people founded The Home for the Aged in 1948 on 4 acres in Jamaica Plain.

As the needs of the Armenian elderly community changed, the A.W.W.A. built a 56-bed nursing home on the same property in 1960. In 1979, the facility was expanded to the 83-bed skilled nursing facility it remains today. To reflect the kind of care provided today, the name of the facility was changed to the Armenian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in 1996. The A.W.W.A. continues its close involvement in and strong financial support of the Center to this day. Although many of ANRC’s residents are of Armenian heritage, ANRC provides personalized care to residents of all ethnic backgrounds.

The A.W.W.A. Board of Directors involvement in the Center manifests itself everywhere in the Center. ANRC’s many building and landscape renovations, as well as the high staffing levels, are attributable to their dedication and fundraising efforts. Members also sponsor and attend functions at the Center and are available to staff, residents, and visitors.
