YEREVAN — By the decree issued by the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian on January 12, Grigor Hovhannisyan has been appointed to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United States of America in Washington, DC.

Hovhannisyan replaces outgoing ambassador and former PM Tigran Sargsyan who will chair the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union. He will succeed Victor Khristenko and will assume the post from February 1, 2016.

By the same decree Hovhannisyan was removed from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Mexican States, Republic of Cuba, Republic of Costa Rica, Republic of Guatemala and Republic of Panama by another presidential decree.
