MISSION HILLS, CA — Ararat-Eskijian Museum, National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) and Armenian Jewelers Foundation, present a mini-conference on “Treasures of Western Armenia A Conference on Material Culture & Genocide in Western Armenia”

There is little information available in English on the material culture of Western Armenia. The recent joint publication by the Geneva-based Armenian Jewelers Foundation and the Russian Museum of Ethnography has revealed, for the first time, the ethnographic collection and records of the 1916 Scientific Expedition to Armenia led by Alexander Miller. The Treasures of Western Armenia contains valuable artifacts, traditional costumes and jewelry made and used by ordinary Armenians at the time. This knowledge exchange seminar will explore the themes of material civilization before the 1915 Genocide, its special characteristics, and ultimate fate.

Featuring the Following Presentations
“The Effects of Genocide on Culture and Civilization in Western Armenia”- By Dr. Rouben Adalian, Director, Armenian National Institute, Washington, D.C.
“The Lost Treasures of Western Armenia: The Miller Collection of 1916” – by Mr. Hratch Kaspar, Director of Strategic Planning, Armenian Jewelers Foundation, Geneva
“Traditional Armenian Design Patterns Across Various Arts” – by Mr. Hratch Kozibeyokian, President, Armenian Rugs Society, Los Angeles
