YEREVAN — Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan has indicated that Czech-made military aircraft may soon arrive in Armenia, sharing a video from the Czech Republic that appears to feature an L-39NG Skyfox aircraft.
“These beauties will soon be flying in Armenia’s skies,” Papikyan wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
The L-39NG Skyfox is a modern, two-seat jet aircraft manufactured by the Czech company Aero Vodochody. Designed primarily for military pilot training and light combat operations, it represents the next generation of the L-39 Albatros trainer aircraft developed during the Soviet era.
Papikyan provided no additional details about the aircraft shown in the video, including the number Armenia might acquire or a possible delivery schedule.
The defense minister departed for an official visit to the Czech Republic on October 20.
Armenia and the Czech Republic signed a military-technical cooperation agreement in 2019, which entered into force in October 2023.
In April 2024, a delegation from the Czech Ministry of Defense visited Armenia, accompanied by representatives of Czech defense industry companies.
At the time, Armenia’s Defense Ministry announced that the two sides had reached several agreements concerning military-technical cooperation, although no further details were disclosed.
The latest development suggests continued efforts to strengthen defense cooperation between Armenia and the Czech Republic.
