TEHRAN — Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a series of high-level meetings with Iranian leaders in Tehran, focusing on bilateral relations, regional security, energy cooperation and joint economic projects.
Mirzoyan met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss key areas of Armenia-Iran cooperation and exchange views on regional and international developments.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit was part of regular consultations between the two countries aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening peace and security in the region.
Mirzoyan was also received by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Building on an earlier meeting between the leaders of the two countries in New York, the sides welcomed the active political dialogue between Armenia and Iran.
The talks focused particularly on energy cooperation and the development of regional infrastructure. Mirzoyan briefed Pezeshkian on the implementation of the TRIPP project, while the two also exchanged views on regional stability and security. They discussed high-level Iranian participation in the upcoming COP17 conference in Yerevan.
During a separate meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the sides emphasized the importance of interparliamentary cooperation and noted the high level of relations between the two neighboring countries, which they described as being based on mutual trust and friendship.
The meeting was also attended by Ara Shahverdyan, head of the Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Iranian Majlis, and Deputy Head Geghard Mansourian.
Mirzoyan and Ghalibaf reviewed ongoing bilateral projects, including efforts to improve infrastructure between Armenia and Iran and facilitate freight transportation. Mirzoyan also highlighted the potential expansion of railway links through the TRIPP project, saying it could create new economic opportunities for countries across the region.
The Tehran talks reflected the expanding Armenia-Iran agenda, with discussions spanning political relations, economic cooperation, energy, transportation and regional security.
