European Union Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Armenia’s Economic Development and Reforms

YEREVAN — Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in Yerevan with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood, to discuss the current state of Armenia–European Union relations and opportunities for deeper cooperation.

During the meeting, Pashinyan emphasized the Armenian government’s interest in strengthening cooperation with the EU in transportation, energy, and digitalization, as well as promoting economic diversification and resilience.

The prime minister also highlighted the importance of EU assistance in expanding exports of Armenian products and strengthening the technical capabilities of Armenian manufacturers and exporters.

Koopman welcomed the Armenian government’s reform agenda and reaffirmed the European Union’s readiness to continue providing support and expanding cooperation in sectors contributing to Armenia’s sustainable development.

According to an official statement, the two sides also discussed regional security and stability, including efforts to reopen transportation and communication routes throughout the region.

The European Union has introduced trade preferences allowing several hundred categories of Armenian products to enter the European market duty-free.

Through these Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs), Brussels aims to support Armenia’s economy following Russian trade restrictions and help Armenian businesses diversify their export markets.
