Armenia Presents Its Experience in Confiscating Illicit Assets at 15th UN Congress

ABU DHABI — Armenia’s Deputy Prosecutor General Edgar Arsenyan, as part of the Armenian delegation, is participating in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

According to a statement issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia, Arsenyan delivered remarks during the Congress outlining Armenia’s experience and approaches in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of international cooperation and opportunities for its further development.

The Deputy Prosecutor General also presented the objectives and key features of Armenia’s system for the confiscation of assets of illicit origin. He highlighted the importance of mutual legal assistance and international cooperation in identifying assets located in foreign jurisdictions and obtaining relevant information about them.

Arsenyan also addressed practical challenges in this area, Armenia’s experience in exchanging requests with foreign counterparts, and ongoing efforts to improve the effectiveness of international cooperation.

On the same day, Arsenyan met with UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi. During the meeting, the Armenian side presented the principal features of Armenia’s system for the confiscation of assets of illicit origin.

The two officials also discussed the status of requests submitted by Armenian authorities to their UAE counterparts in connection with individual cases under mutual legal assistance procedures. The discussions covered obtaining necessary information, tracing assets, ensuring the timely exchange of information, and improving the efficiency of processing international requests.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen practical coordination and enhance future cooperation.

During the visit, the Armenian delegation also held bilateral meetings with senior justice officials from partner countries, including delegations headed by the justice ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The parties discussed issues of mutual interest and prospects for further developing cooperation in the field of justice.
