BUSAN  – The Armenian delegation is participating in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea.

Addressing the general debate, Aram Hakobyan, Armenia’s permanent delegate to UNESCO, reaffirmed the country’s commitment, as a first-time member of the committee, to working closely with all stakeholders to strengthen the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention.

Hakobyan praised the efforts of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre to support states that remain underrepresented on the World Heritage List. He also emphasized the importance of further strengthening the Centre’s capabilities.

Referring to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which Armenia will host in October 2026, Hakobyan commended the World Heritage Centre’s contribution to advancing climate action and biodiversity conservation.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening the connection between the protection of cultural and natural heritage and the preservation of biodiversity.
