BRUSSELS — Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos discussed mechanisms to strengthen the economic component of Armenia-EU cooperation, including increasing trade turnover, during a telephone conversation.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the continued development of Armenia-EU relations.

They also discussed projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation to strengthen democratic resilience as part of the Armenia-EU strategic agenda.

Following the call, Marta Kos wrote on X that she had a productive conversation with Mirzoyan, during which she reaffirmed “the European Union’s solidarity with Armenia in the face of growing economic pressure from Russia.”

“We are looking for ways to increase EU support for Armenia in the short term. We are also accelerating our efforts to promote trade and energy connectivity to and within the South Caucasus while supporting Armenia’s economic ties with its immediate neighbors,” Kos wrote.

“Armenia is a sovereign and independent country whose people are free to choose their own path,” she added.

A day earlier, the European Union issued an official statement condemning any attempt by Russia to exert pressure on Armenia.

Ahead of Armenia’s parliamentary elections, Russia has restricted the import of several Armenian products, citing quality concerns.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has pledged government assistance to businesses affected by the Russian restrictions.

He also stated that several business delegations are actively working to open new markets and that the first shipments of Armenian roses and vegetables have already been exported.
