Prosecutor Seeks CEC Approval to Launch Criminal Proceedings Against Andranik Tevanyan

YEREVAN — A prosecutor submitted a motion to Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission on May 22, 2026, seeking consent to launch criminal proceedings against Andranik Norik Tevanyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Prosperous Armenia Party in the upcoming National Assembly elections.

Earlier in the day, National Security Service officers carried out investigative actions at the office of the Mother Armenia Party, headed by Tevanyan.

The Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings in connection with alleged treason and espionage. According to a report received from the National Security Service, Tevanyan was allegedly recruited by foreign special services in 2024 and, acting on the instructions of a representative of foreign intelligence services who headed the “Russia-Caucasus” geopolitical center, carried out espionage.

Investigators allege that Tevanyan collected and transferred, in exchange for $622,000, Russian-translated information containing state secrets about closed parliamentary hearings held in April 2024. Authorities say the alleged actions constituted treason against Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security.
