European Parliament Passes Resolution Supporting Armenia’s Upcoming Elections

STRASBOURG — The European Parliament has adopted a resolution with 476 votes in favor, expressing full support for Armenia’s parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026.

The resolution underscores the importance of transparency in the electoral process, media pluralism, and the protection of fundamental freedoms. It also highlights the role of international and domestic observer missions, particularly the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, in ensuring fair elections.

European lawmakers warned of potential Russian interference, condemning hybrid threats such as disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and illicit political financing through oligarchic networks.

The resolution welcomes the strengthening of Armenia–EU relations and Armenia’s legislative steps toward potential EU membership. It also points to upcoming events in Yerevan—including the European Political Community summit and the first EU–Armenia summit—as signs of growing cooperation.

Regarding regional security, the Parliament reaffirmed its support for a comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders.
