Just over a month after his 39th birthday, former flyweight and bantamweight world champion Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan (40-7-1, 29 KOs) scored an entertaining ninth round TKO over Juan “El Penita” Jimenez (19-9, 12 KOs) in a super-bantamweight bout in Chetumal, Mexico, on Saturday night.

Darchinyan was the far more active fighter, stalking Jimenez throughout as Jimenez rarely got off and seemed content to look for big counter shots, which he did find success with at times, particularly in the third round. While Darchinyan was the aggressor, he did appear a bit more cautious than in past efforts.

Jimenez looked to have knocked Darchinyan down in round three, but no count was issued. Darchinyan knocked Jimenez down in the seventh, but the knockdown was waved off by the official as it came from a Darchinyan right hook that connected with the back of the head. But when Darchinyan dropped Jimenez in the ninth, it concluded the fight.
