In a statement addressed to Arab world, Lebanon’s Social Democrat Hunchakian Party’s executive committee slammed Turkey’s “flagrant interferences” in the Arab Spring, and recognized Turkish exploitation of the Arab Spring to serve its own regional interests.
The statement read “A government that shuts up its intellectuals and jails them cannot be the one entrusted to defend the rights of others,” adding Turkey, throughout its own history, has denied the basic human rights of its own people and ethnic minorities, including its Armenian, Arab and Kurdish inhabitants and cannot be an example to look up to.
Commenting on Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu’s recent visit to Lebanon, the SDHP understood the visit “falls within the context of Turkey’s suspicious [aims].”
