HANOI — Armenian students won one silver and three bronze medals at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 25 to October 5.
The competition brought together 320 students from 64 countries, with each country permitted to field a team of up to five students.
Armenia was represented by Ruzanna Shiroyan, Natali Margaryan and Bagrat Bagratyan of the A. Shahinyan Specialized School of Physics and Mathematics; Emil Harutyunyan of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia High School; and Davit Badalyan of the Shirakatsy Lyceum International Scientific-Educational Complex.
Ruzanna Shiroyan earned a silver medal, while Natali Margaryan, Bagrat Bagratyan and Emil Harutyunyan each received bronze medals.
The Olympiad consisted of four rounds: theoretical, observational, data analysis and planetarium.
The Armenian team was led by Artashes Mkrtchyan of Yerevan State University and the Yerevan Scientific-Educational Foundation, and Artavazd Harutyunyan of Yerevan State University and the A. Shahinyan Specialized School of Physics and Mathematics.
At the 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, held in Mumbai, India, in 2025, Armenia’s team won two silver medals and one bronze medal.
