Armenian and Azerbaijani Officials Discuss TRIPP Power Transmission Lines at Meeting in Goris

GORIS — Representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan held a technical meeting on October 8 in the Armenian city of Goris to discuss the installation of electricity transmission lines under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure reported.

During the meeting, the two sides addressed technical matters related to the proposed transmission lines and exchanged views on their potential placement and implementation.

Particular attention was given to coordination between the relevant agencies and the next steps required to advance the project.

The discussions followed a previous meeting held on August 25 in the Azerbaijani city of Lachin, attended by representatives of Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and the Armenian Electricity System Operator, as well as Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and the state energy company Azerenergy.

On August 24, while presenting the government’s 2026–2031 program to the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan outlined the broader scope of the TRIPP initiative, emphasizing that it would encompass not only railway infrastructure but also roads, pipelines, cables and electricity transmission lines.

Pashinyan suggested that electricity transmission lines could become the first infrastructure component to be operational under the project.

He explained that such infrastructure would be relatively easier to complete within a shorter period compared with other components of the initiative.

The prime minister also pointed to growing global demand for electricity, which he said has increased the importance of projects aimed at exporting electrical energy from the region.

The latest technical discussions reflect continued efforts by Armenia and Azerbaijan to coordinate infrastructure development under the TRIPP initiative.
