Armenian qanun virtuoso Marianna Gevorgyan has been named a winner of the prestigious InterContinental Music Awards (ICMA) in the “Best Musician” category.
This year’s competition attracted approximately 3,500 musicians from more than 100 countries. Representing the Republic of Armenia, Gevorgyan showcased Armenian musical heritage and culture through the qanun, the traditional Armenian string instrument.
Gevorgyan has earned numerous international honors throughout her career. In 2025, she received the Global Icon Award in recognition of her achievements as an internationally acclaimed virtuoso musician. In 2020, she won the Grand Prize at the World Folk Vision Global Cultural Initiative and has also received numerous first-place awards at international music competitions.
Gevorgyan is a solo qanun performer with the Tagharan Ensemble of Ancient Music at Armenia’s Komitas National Chamber Music Center, under the artistic direction of Sedrak Yerkanyan.
