Greco-Roman Wrestling: Malkhas Amoyan Wins Fifth European Championship Title

TIRANA — At the European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Armenia’s national team leader Malkhas Amoyan, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympic Games, claimed the gold medal to become a five-time European champion.

In the decisive final of the 77 kg weight category, Amoyan defeated Georgia’s Ramaz Zoidze with a 1–1 victory on criteria.

Notably, the two wrestlers had also faced each other in last year’s European Championship final, where Amoyan likewise emerged victorious. With this win, he successfully defended his title and, for the fifth time in his career, stood atop the European podium.

The day was also successful for Karen Aslanyan in the 63 kg category, who secured a bronze medal after defeating Mairbek Salimov in just one minute. This marks his fourth European Championship bronze medal.

Among Armenia’s other competitors, Manvel Khachatryan (55 kg) lost in the bronze medal match, while Gaspar Terteryan (72 kg) was defeated in the semifinals and will compete for bronze tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Suren Aghajanyan (60 kg) delivered an impressive semifinal victory over Azerbaijan’s Nihat Mammadli and will compete for the European championship title in the final.
