YEREVAN — Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended an event dedicated to Diplomatic Service Day in Armenia.
The prime minister congratulated Ararat Mirzoyan and all Armenian diplomats on their professional holiday, thanking them for their service and emphasizing the importance of understanding the role and significance of diplomacy and the diplomatic service in the country’s development.
In his remarks, Pashinyan noted that understanding global developments, ongoing processes, changes taking place in the world, and the cause-and-effect relationships behind events helps make the international environment more predictable and manageable.
“In this regard, the situation we have today in Armenia in terms of the foreign policy environment is, in my view, a substantial and significant achievement,” the prime minister said. “At the same time, we must not forget the most important goal of our diplomatic activity and our work in the sphere of foreign relations — serving our country’s national interests, which means ensuring the economic development of our state.”
Pashinyan added that while security remains a vital necessity, excessive focus on security alone can distance the country from the logic of economic development.
“Recent developments and what we have been publicly discussing clearly show a change in perspective,” he said. “When speaking about the situation in the region, including the peace process with Azerbaijan, we often say that the economy seems to be moving ahead of political processes. This is undoubtedly positive. It means our diplomatic efforts are increasingly focused on the logic of economic development. The more we focus on economic development, the further we move away from the logic and framework of tension and escalation.”
In his speech, the prime minister also spoke about the peace achieved in recent years.
“It is very important that we appreciate the peace we have today,” Pashinyan said. “It is also very important that we value the unblocking processes taking place around Armenia.”
He stressed that Armenia’s economic growth has exceeded expectations in recent years, in part due to diplomatic efforts.
“These achievements must be protected,” he said. “I believe we have reached a stage where we are able to shield ourselves from storms, crises, and numerous geopolitical shocks. However, we must not treat this as something guaranteed. It is the result of consistent and conscious work.”
Pashinyan emphasized that continuous education is essential for preserving achievements and ensuring further development.
“I am confident that our diplomatic service has the capacity to nurture, protect, preserve, and develop both its own achievements and those of the Republic of Armenia,” he said. “Development is one of the most important tools for protection and preservation, because if any achievement does not continue to develop into something greater and more significant, it inevitably loses its current importance.”
Concluding his speech, the prime minister said that Armenia is moving forward on a path of learning more, which creates practical opportunities to do more for the country.
“I thank all our diplomats for their readiness and daily efforts to do more for our homeland, the Republic of Armenia,” he concluded.
