BAKU — The head of NATO’s office in the South Caucasus, Alexander Vinnikov, has stated that the TRIPP initiative (Regional Infrastructure and Partnership Platform) could unlock significant economic opportunities for the entire region and contribute to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In an interview with Azerbaijan’s APA news agency, the NATO representative emphasized that the Alliance welcomes all constructive steps aimed at achieving a lasting peace agreement—an outcome that is of key importance for stability in the Black Sea region.
According to Vinnikov, the South Caucasus has the potential to become a major transport hub, but this would require the development of modern infrastructure and the establishment of efficient cargo transit across multiple countries. He noted that the agreement reached in Washington on August 8, along with the creation of a regional connectivity network—primarily linking Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, and more broadly connecting Central Asia with Europe—clearly demonstrates these opportunities.
“Regardless of what these initiatives are called, what matters is that they genuinely serve the interests of the countries of the region. They must create conditions for the full realization of the economic and transit potential of all regional stakeholders,” Vinnikov added, stressing that these principles form the foundation of the TRIPP initiative.
