Another Step Toward Closer EU–Armenia Defense Cooperation: Kallas

BRUSSELS — The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has commented on the decision to allocate €20 million in assistance to Armenia under the European Peace Facility.

“This assistance measure under the European Peace Facility is another step toward closer cooperation between the EU and Armenia in the fields of security and defense. Through this measure, the EU demonstrates its commitment to continuing support for Armenia’s resilience, which contributes to stability, peace, and security across the entire region,” Kallas said.

The EU Council has approved the decision to provide €20 million in assistance to Armenia under the European Peace Facility. According to a statement published on the Council’s official website, the support is aimed at strengthening the logistical capabilities of the **Republic of Armenia’s Armed Forces, with a particular focus on protecting civilians during crisis and emergency situations.

The statement notes that the assistance will enhance Armenia’s resilience and accelerate the interoperability of its armed forces in the event of potential participation in future international military missions and operations, including those carried out by the European Union.

It also underscores the EU’s commitment to strengthening a comprehensive political and economic partnership with Armenia, based on the new EU–Armenia Strategic Partnership Agenda.
