EU Mission in Armenia Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Peace and Stability

YEREVAN – The EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

“On the first day of EUMA’s new mandate, we are proud to confirm that EUMA remains dedicated to peace and stability in the region and will continue patrolling on the Armenian side of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border,” the mission stated in a post on X.

On January 30, 2025, the EU Council adopted a decision to extend the mandate of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) for an additional two years, until February 19, 2027. A budget of over €44 million has been allocated for the period from February 20, 2025, to February 19, 2027.

The mission is tasked with observing and reporting on the situation on the ground, contributing to human security in conflict-affected areas, and supporting confidence-building efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan where possible.

Headed by Dr. Markus Ritter, the mission consists of more than 200 personnel, including both international and local staff. EUMA observers and civilian experts represent 25 EU member states, along with Canada as a third contributing state. The mission was launched by the EU Council on February 20, 2023, marking the beginning of its operational activities.
