Armenia and Turkey to Assess Rail Border Crossing Feasibility

YEREVAN — Armenia and Turkey will jointly assess the technical requirements for the border crossing via the Gyumri-Kars railway, Armenian Foreign Minister and BSEC Chair-in-Office Ararat Mirzoyan announced during his remarks at the 49th Meeting of the BSEC CMFA.

“With Turkey, we have already agreed to jointly assess the technical requirements for the border crossing by the Gyumri-Kars railway. At the same time, we have proposed to Azerbaijan modalities for relaunching our rail infrastructure, simplifying border crossing and customs procedures, and providing additional insurance mechanisms,” Mirzoyan said on Thursday, December 19.

He emphasized the importance of mutual trust and enhanced connectivity as a foundation for peace, highlighting the potential of the “Crossroads of Peace” project. “The project has the potential to foster regional cooperation on multiple fronts by efficiently linking the Gulf, the Black Sea, and the Caspian Sea. This would significantly contribute to integrating our region into global transport chains and bring enormous benefits to all countries involved. The project has already received positive feedback from numerous international partners, and we will continue our efforts to consolidate further support for its implementation.”

Mirzoyan underlined that open borders, free and inclusive regional economic cooperation are key objectives for the Organization. “Armenia is committed to constructive and efficient cooperation within the BSEC to advance peace and stability in the Black Sea Region and beyond,” he added.
