CineCulture and Armenian Studies Program to Feature “Our Village”

FRESNO — The CineCulture Series and the Armenian Studies Program at California State University, Fresno, are sponsoring a special screening of the film “Our Village” at 5:30PM on Friday, April 1, in the Leon and Pete Peters Educational Auditorium (next to the SaveMart Center), on the Fresno State campus.

Director Yelena Arshkayan will be visiting from Armenia to discuss the film after the viewing.
“Our Village” tells the story of a rural, modern village, focusing on three neighbors-their lives, relationships, wishes, bothers, and immigration, which is a general problem for all Armenians.

The shooting took place in Dsegh, a village in Armenia, where the famous writer Hovhannes Toumanian was born. According to director Arshakyan, “It was majestic making a film in the land of such a genius.”

Yelena Arshakyan graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema, Department of Film Directing, in 2008. From 2002 until now, she is a film director and scriptwriter in the Public TV Company of Armenia.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Free parking is available at any of the adjacent Fresno State parking lots (near the corner of Shaw and Woodrow Avenues).

For more information about the presentation please contact the Armenian Studies Program at 278-2669, or visit our website at www.fresnostate.edu/armenianstudies.
