YEREVAN — President Serzh Sarkisian visited the defense positions in the northeast of the country and inspected troops deployed along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian and the chief of the Armenian army’s General Staff, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov.
A statement by the presidential press service said the commander of an army corps deployed in the area briefed Sarkisian on the situation along the volatile frontier where serious ceasefire violations have been a regular occurrence this year.
The President attended simulation exercises involving divisions of the Second Army Corps, listened to a report by the commander of the Corps on the situation and problems in the military unit under his command.
Later in the day President Sarkisian proceeded to Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for a working visit.
