Protesters Gather Outside Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara Over Hijab Restrictions in Schools

ANKARA — A demonstration was held outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, to protest restrictions on wearing the hijab in Azerbaijani schools.

Participants argued that wearing a headscarf is a religious obligation and called on Azerbaijani authorities to end the restrictions.

The protesters maintained that students should not be denied the right to wear religious head coverings and strongly criticized the Azerbaijani government over its policies.

During the demonstration, participants also voiced criticism of Azerbaijan’s relations with Israel.

A similar protest had previously taken place outside the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Istanbul.
