AGBU Hye Geen 20th Anniversary Commemoration

PASADENA — AGBU Hye Geen will launch another landmark event in the series celebrating its 20th anniversary. As a mark of its national commitment, AGBU Hye Geen will present the challenging issue of the changing Armenian diaspora and whether the U.S. Armenian diaspora can replicate the success of the Middle East. The event will take place on November 2nd 2013 at AGBU Pasadena Center (2495 East Mountain St.) at 11:00 a.m.

The first speaker, Tamar Kevonian will review Gender Inequalities in the Armenian Community of Los Angeles. The publisher of Mosaix Magazine, the first of its kind featuring Armenians in the diaspora and subsequently a contributor to various Armenian publications, Tamar Kevonian has consistently tackled social issues within the U.S. community.

The guest speaker, Baydzig Arabian-Kalaydjian, a former educator, editor of Middle Eastern newspapers and at present executive director of the Boston-based Tekeyan Cultural Association Board of Directors, will discuss the Changing Armenian Diaspora and evaluate the U.S. Armenian diaspora in replicating the success of the Middle Eastern communities.

Questions raised and comments offered by the audience will be duly addressed. Finally, there will be a summing up by Sona Zeitlian, author of studies about Armenian women. In view of the urgency for change, she will review the options for investing in the future and, while upholding the enduring legacy of the Middle Eastern communities, to dwell on the role of organizational networks to insure the active involvement of the urban settlers in the U.S. and to sustain their diverse activities of maintaining the national heritage.
