U.S. Criticizes Azerbaijan and Turkey for Expanding Economic Ties with Iran

Stuart Levey, U.S. undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, criticized Turkey and Azerbaijan, stressing that Baku and Ankara are expanding economic ties with Iran.
Mr Levey, who was on a visit to the region, including Azerbaijan last month, told Voice of America that despite UN Security Council’s sanctions, Turkey and Azerbaijan are extending economic relations with Iran.
“Turkey and Azerbaijan are against the nuclear program of Iran, but they support peaceful solution to this problem. Iran is bordering with these countries. I understand so that Turkey and Azerbaijan don’t intend to breach relations with Iran. They are however developing economic relations and border trade with Iran, but they are concerned about the possible solution to the Iranian problem because they consider that otherwise the solution of this problem can lead to the violation of stability in the region.”
