YEREVAN — Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the opposition Strong Armenia Party, has reiterated his determination to bring his political movement to power, announcing plans to develop a roadmap and unite opposition forces against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government.
Speaking to journalists, Karapetyan insisted that his party would eventually assume power.
“We will come to power under any circumstances,” he declared.
Asked whether he was referring to 2031, Karapetyan rejected the suggestion, saying the transition would take place much sooner.
“There are various legal ways to come to power. We will develop a roadmap and take power. The secret plan is one of those options. We are moving forward through our daily struggle,” he said.
Karapetyan also announced that his party intends to unite a broad range of opposition forces and will present its “Peace Without Concessions” program within two weeks.
However, he did not identify the political groups involved in the proposed alliance.
“We will unite the right forces, those who are genuinely in opposition,” he said.
Karapetyan added that he would even encourage members of the ruling Civil Contract Party to join the initiative, arguing that some had become overly dependent on Pashinyan.
“I will even appeal to Civil Contract members to join us because they, too, have become Pashinyan’s followers. There are valuable people within that party who should not remain subordinate to him,” he told reporters.
When asked to explain the principles of the proposed “Peace Without Concessions” program and what alternatives it would offer, Karapetyan did not provide specific details.
The businessman first announced his initiative to unite opposition forces ten days after the June 7 elections.
In early August, he stated that discussions had begun among opposition groups seeking to coordinate their efforts against Pashinyan’s government.
However, no substantive details of those discussions have been made public.
Last month, Karapetyan again claimed that his efforts to establish a united opposition movement were progressing rapidly.
