NEW YORK — Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, has reaffirmed Armenia’s support for strengthening the UN human rights system to prevent human rights violations and ensure accountability.
Speaking during the general debate of the Third Committee of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Hovhannisyan outlined Armenia’s efforts to strengthen human rights protection mechanisms, promote gender equality, safeguard children’s rights, and advance the prevention agenda.
Addressing regional developments, Hovhannisyan noted that although efforts to consolidate peace are continuing, several urgent humanitarian issues remain unresolved.
Among them, he cited the continued detention of 19 Armenians, the need to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing persons, and issues related to cases of enforced disappearance.
Hovhannisyan stressed that addressing these humanitarian concerns would contribute to strengthening peace, building trust, and promoting reconciliation in the region.
