Pashinyan: Armenia Understands Simultaneous Membership in EAEU and EU Is Impossible

CHOLPON-ATA – During a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union’s Intergovernmental Council, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented his counterparts from EAEU member states with figures on Armenia’s contributions to the organization’s budget.

Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia has contributed more to the EAEU’s common budget than it has received.

“This is direct evidence of our responsible approach to our obligations within the EAEU,” Pashinyan said.

He also presented figures illustrating Armenia’s fulfillment of its commitments and its role within the organization.

“In 2025, Armenia contributed approximately $319 million to the EAEU’s common customs budget, while the total amount allocated to Armenia was approximately $170 million. Thus, Armenia contributed more to the EAEU’s common budget than it received,” the prime minister said.

Pashinyan also stated that Armenia understands it cannot simultaneously be a member of both the EAEU and the European Union.

Addressing the issue of possible EU membership, he said: “At the same time, the Armenian people are not currently faced with such a choice, because Armenia is not yet ready for membership in the European Union.”

According to the prime minister, Armenia has taken note of statements by four EAEU member states regarding the possibility of holding a referendum on joining the EU.

“We cannot hold a referendum on an issue that does not currently exist,” Pashinyan said.
