Apricots Symbolize the Changes Taking Place in Armenia, Says Marta Kos After Making Jam from Armenian Apricots

BRUSSELS — European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has made jam from Armenian apricots. She wrote about it on her social media page and shared photos.

“I made this jam from Armenian apricots,” Kos wrote.

“Apricots symbolize the changes taking place in Armenia. In last month’s elections, a majority of Armenians voted for parties seeking closer cooperation with the European Union. Russia tried to influence the vote by restricting imports of Armenian fruits and flowers. The EU, in turn, helped Armenia by opening its market to many of these products.

“That is why I was in Armenia last week and returned to Brussels with a huge basket of apricots. Many of them went to my friends, and I used the rest to make jam.

“One of my friends looked at the jam and said, ‘Jars of freedom.’ I thought that was a beautiful way to put it.

“When you visit a store, look out for Armenian apricots, plums or cherries. It is a chance to do something small that will help Armenian farmers and support the country’s democratic choices,” she wrote.
