There Is No Reason to Worry About a Change in Gas Prices, Says Khudatyan

YEREVAN — Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan has assured citizens that there is currently no reason to be concerned about an increase in gas prices.

“There is no possible change in the gas price because we have a contract, the term of which expires after the winter,” the minister said during a briefing at the National Assembly.

According to Khudatyan, Russia has no grounds to unilaterally terminate its gas supply agreement with Armenia.

“Grounds are required to terminate the contract unilaterally. We are working normally. We are receiving gas at the same price as before and in the same manner as before. We have very good relations with our partners, and nothing has changed in our working relationship. Please do not create the impression that Armenia is somehow more interested in an increase in gas prices,” the minister said.

Khudatyan added that Armenian authorities are managing all risks and that the situation is not as it may appear to the public.

At the end of May, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would sell gas to Armenia at market prices instead of preferential rates if Yerevan decided to leave the Eurasian Economic Union. At the same time, he warned that conditions would change if Armenia chose other economic blocs, such as the European Union.
