Mirzoyan Attends EU Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at Invitation of EU High Representative

BRUSSELS — Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan attended a meeting held in the format of the EU Foreign Affairs Council at the invitation of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The discussion, held in the format of a working breakfast, was attended by European Commission Vice President and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, and foreign ministers and representatives of EU member states.

EU partners congratulated Foreign Minister Mirzoyan on the democratic parliamentary elections held in Armenia and the victory of the Civil Contract party. They emphasized the EU’s and member states’ support for the consistent implementation of the strategic agenda of the Armenia-EU partnership, as well as their political commitment to advancing Armenia’s European integration.

Minister Mirzoyan presented developments in and around Armenia during the pre-election and post-election periods, stressing that Armenian citizens, through their vote, reaffirmed their will to live in peace and to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty, the irreversible course of democratic reforms, the chosen path of prosperity, and Armenia’s aspirations for a European future.

Mirzoyan noted that the fact that his first visit after the elections was to participate in this discussion with the EU, aimed at further deepening the Armenia-EU partnership, demonstrates the commitment of both sides.

The participants exchanged views on increasing Armenia-EU trade, as well as on possible mechanisms and steps to strengthen Armenia’s economic and energy resilience. Minister Mirzoyan highly appreciated the support provided so far by the EU and its member states in countering hybrid threats and diversifying Armenia’s economic ties.

An agreement was reached to continue work in this direction through active cooperation both with EU institutions and with individual EU member states.
