ISMAILIA, EGYPT — Armenia’s national team continues its impressive run at the World Youth Weightlifting Championships taking place in Egypt. In the women’s 77 kg competition, Armenian weightlifter Anna Amroyan delivered a dominant performance to capture the gold medal.
Representing Armenia, Amroyan successfully lifted 100 kg, 104 kg, and 106 kg in the snatch event.
In the clean and jerk, she successfully lifted 128 kg, 132 kg, and 134 kg, finishing first in the discipline. With a combined total of 240 kg, Amroyan was crowned World Youth Champion.
In the men’s 79 kg competition, Armenian national team member Narek Mkrtchyan also delivered an outstanding performance, earning the title of World Championship runner-up.
The Armenian weightlifter successfully lifted 145 kg and then 150 kg in the snatch event. In the clean and jerk, Mkrtchyan recorded lifts of 182 kg and 186 kg, earning a small bronze medal in that discipline.
With a total combined result of 336 kg, Mkrtchyan finished second overall and claimed the silver medal.
