Vote-Buying Scheme Reported in Artashat, Anti-Corruption Committee Says

YEREVAN — Members of the “Strong Armenia” party, along with individuals affiliated with a cooperating NGO, have allegedly distributed bribes to voters in the Artashat community of Armenia’s Ararat Province, according to the Anti-Corruption Committee.

Authorities reported that the group used online communication tools to coordinate their actions and conceal the scheme.

A criminal investigation has been launched under relevant provisions of Armenia’s Criminal Code. Multiple searches have been conducted, and more than a dozen individuals have been detained.

The Anti-Corruption Committee has also released audio recordings related to the case.

Attorney Vahan Hovhannisyan stated that 14 members of the “Strong Armenia” party have been arrested, adding that payments previously considered salaries for participation in development programs are now being treated by investigators as alleged vote-buying.
