French President Emmanuel Macron to Visit Armenia in May

PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Armenia on May 4 for a two-day visit. The announcement was made by Denis Djorkaeff, Honorary Consul of Armenia in France, in a post on his X account.

“President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Armenia on May 4 for a two-day visit. He will meet with Nikol Pashinyan and participate in the European Political Community summit to be held in Yerevan,” Djorkaeff wrote.

The 8th meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) will take place in Yerevan on May 4.

The Armenian state budget will allocate 1 billion drams for hosting the 8th European Political Community summit in Yerevan.

The European Political Community is an intergovernmental platform that brings together leaders of European countries to discuss strategically significant issues, including security, energy, migration, infrastructure, democracy, and the rule of law. It was initiated in 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron with the aim of creating a common platform for dialogue between EU member states and countries in the European neighborhood.

The first EPC summit was held in October 2022 in Prague.

It was within the framework of that summit that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, through a statement mediated by the President of France and the President of the European Council, recognized each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, referring to the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.

Armenia expressed its consent to support the deployment of an EU civilian mission along its border with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan agreed to cooperate with the mission to the extent that it was relevant to it.
