“We Are Discussing How to Counter Foreign Malign Influence in Armenia’s Elections”: Kaja Kallas

EU Member State Partners Express Support for Further Strengthening Peace Efforts

BRUSSELS — The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, has addressed the issue of Armenia’s parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026 and the prevention of foreign interference.

The remarks primarily referred to potential threats expected from Russia.

“We are discussing Armenia. Armenia has elections coming up soon, and we are looking at what we can do to help them. They have requested similar assistance to counter foreign malign influence, as we provided to Moldova,” Kallas stated.

At the invitation of EU partners, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, participated in a meeting held within the framework of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

The working breakfast-format discussion was attended by Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, as well as foreign policy chiefs and representatives of EU member states.

During the meeting, participants expressed satisfaction with the significant progress achieved in the development of Armenia–EU cooperation and exchanged views on upcoming priorities. Minister Mirzoyan highly appreciated the support and shared commitment surrounding the Armenia–EU strategic partnership agenda and the implementation of various joint initiatives.

Throughout the discussion, EU member states voiced their support for Armenia’s democratic development, the strengthening of its resilience, and efforts to counter hybrid threats. In the context of regional developments, EU partners also expressed support for the process of unblocking communications and for continued efforts to strengthen peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
