Georgian PM Orders One-Time Free Transit of Azerbaijani Fuel to Armenia

TBILISI — Armenian and Georgian officials have held discussions regarding a possible transit of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia via Georgia, Armenia’s Ministry of Economy told Armenpress in response to inquiries about an earlier statement issued by the Georgian government.

“There has been such a discussion with the Georgian side, and we have received the published information,” the ministry said, commenting on the announcement from Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Earlier, the Georgian ministry announced that on December 5, the Government of Georgia received a formal request from partner countries for a one-time transit of fuel from Azerbaijan to Armenia across Georgian territory. According to the statement, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze instructed Georgian Railways to carry out the transit free of charge. Officials in Tbilisi said the decision had been communicated to all relevant parties.

Georgia described the move as part of its broader policy of supporting regional cooperation. “Georgia has always been and remains a strategic and reliable partner for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have consistently supported peace and regional cooperation,” the Georgian Ministry of Economy declared.

“This decision has been formally communicated to all relevant parties,” the statement said.

The ministry emphasized that Georgia remains committed to cooperation in the South Caucasus. “Georgia has always been and remains a strategic and reliable partner for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have consistently supported peace and regional cooperation,” the statement concluded.
