Civil Contract Party Wins the Vagharshapat Elections

ETCHMIADZINE – According to the November 16 local self-government elections in Vagharshapat, Civil Contract party candidate Argishti Mehakyán won 15,298 votes and will become the head of the community.

The opposition failed to repeat its success in Gyumri. Civil Contract will assume sole control in Vagharshapat.

Argishti Mehakyán thanked his teammates and all who voted for him.

Political forces approached the Vagharshapat elections as a prelude to the 2026 parliamentary elections. Arayik Harutyunyan also noted this, calling the opposition’s defeat “crushing.”

The Prime Minister congratulated Mehakyán on his victory.

In the morning, Nikol Pashinyan also addressed his team’s victory in Vagharshapat on his Facebook page—first congratulating all residents of Vagharshapat on the democratic elections. He then made several remarks and apologized for all the mistakes Civil Contract had made in the community.

According to the published results, the Sunday local elections were won by Civil Contract with 15,298 votes. The Victory bloc received 10,051 votes; Pan-Armenian Front—295; Republic—1,241; Mother Armenia—1,692; Free Democrats—1,177; Heritage—440; and the Homeland party—1,193 votes.
