UN Human Rights Chief Calls for the Release of Armenians Detained in Azerbaijan

GENEVA — During the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk specifically addressed the issue of individuals arbitrarily detained in Azerbaijan, including ethnic Armenians. In his comprehensive report, he stated that “they must be immediately released, and their right to a fair trial must be fully respected.”

This information was shared by Armenia’s Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva, under the Embassy of Armenia in Switzerland.

The High Commissioner also emphasized that he is closely monitoring the ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing hope that they will “lead to truth-seeking, healing, and reconciliation.” He reaffirmed his readiness to support this process.
