ALEPPO — Turkey’s Consul General, Muammer Hakan Cengiz, and Deputy Consul Erin visited the Consulate General of Armenia in Allepo.
“Welcoming the guests, Armenia’s Consul General in Aleppo, Ara Avetisyan, congratulated Mr. Cengiz on the reopening of Turkey’s consulate after a long hiatus, his appointment to the position, and the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement read.
According to the consulate, Avetisyan noted that Armenia’s Consulate General has been operating in Aleppo for over 30 years and has never ceased its activities—not even during the siege and wartime period in Aleppo.
The Armenian Consul also expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for facilitating the recent delivery of humanitarian aid from Armenia to Syria and for allowing the aid convoy to pass through Turkish territory without obstruction.
“Expressing his appreciation for the reception, Mr. Cengiz stated that, in line with diplomatic etiquette and principles, he felt it was his duty to visit the only functioning diplomatic mission in Aleppo and to become acquainted with his Armenian counterpart,” the statement added.
The Armenian Consul General wished his Turkish colleague success in his challenging mission.
“At the end of the meeting, Mr. Cengiz warmly thanked Mr. Avetisyan for the reception and invited him to attend the reopening of the Turkish Consulate General, as well as to visit the temporary office of the Turkish Consulate when convenient. The invitation was accepted. Both parties agreed to continue their cooperation,” concluded the statement from the Armenian Consulate in Aleppo.
